Classmate Notes

Jim Hessel

Retired from Airforce after 32 years in 1998 and went into Project Management Consulting for 10 years. I accepted a position as a Senior Engineer with ADM(MAT)in Apr 2008. I am currently the Deputy Project Manager of the Wheeled Light Armoured Vehicle Life Extension Project.

Remarried and living in the market in Ottawa.

(2008-8-28)

A120 John Selkirk

After marching off the square as a very proud member of the Class of 1978, I was posted to NDHQ for a few years and thereafter returned to Kingston as the Base Operations Officer. I took my release at the 20/40 point, in 1984.

11356 Paul Downie

OC: MILE @ RMC
Plan: RETP
Worked as an engineer in petroleum industry 1978-1986. Served in militia units as comunications officer and artillery officer 1987-1996. Have spent since 1988 in financial services industry. When travelling to Niagara Falls let me know.

(2005-7-8)

11386 Tony MacDougall

I lasted almost 22 years in the military, retiring in 1994. I spent most of that time with the Tac Hel community, flying CH135s (Twin Hueys) with VU-32, Shearwater, NS, 403 Sqn, Gagetown, NB and 408 Sqn, Edmonton, AB. My staff tours were with project management offices in Ottawa; the Light Helicopter project '86-'88, and then the Utility Tactical Transport Helicopter project '91-'94. When we took delivery of the CH146 Griffon, on time and on budget, I thought it was a good time to retire.

Since then I have been active in the community, helping to deliver a new library to the (now defunct) city of Cumberland, and also with the executive of the CMR/RMC Club Ottawa Branch. My wife Marlene and I have two children, Janelle and Colin, who are still in the public school system. I am working as a Financial Planner in the Ottawa area to put food on the table, looking forward to my second retirement. You know how to reach me, drop by or call when you are in town, the door is always open.

11403 John Pronovost

After graduation, Roger Hitesman and I drove west to Esquimalt where I was scheduled to start MARS training. I was enticed by all the stories of great adventures that the navy summer training produced: Seattle Rose Festival, Hawaii, etc. After spending three summers on the hill in CELE training, the prospects of an adventure was impossible to turn down. LCdr Davies (LaSalle) was also a positive influence on my decision to re-classify.

I completed my training in September 1988 and married Diane Olson on the way out to Halifax to joining HMCS Fraser, which is now an artificial reef off the coast of Nova Scotia (the ship, not Diane). Fraser was truly a great ship and crew. Major sea-going assignments included: Communication Officer, Weapons Officer, Bridge Officer, Training Officer, & Aircraft Controller. I was away from home the five years of the first seven of marriage and the marriage did not survive.

(There's lots more. Read John's full bio here.)

11421 Mark Stokes

I retired as a Major in 1993, leaving the Challenger standards position in ATGHQ to try my hand at being an airline pilot flying for Canada 3000. Nine years later as Assistant Chief Pilot for the A330/A340 fleet, I found myself in New Delhi as Canada 3000 went out of business. Fortunately, only two weeks passed before I found myself back in the cockpit with Skyservice. Firmly convinced that the Canadian airline industry was in a nose down attitude. I decided to uproot the family in January 2003, and am now in Dubai with Emirates where I will be for hopefully another 12 years. Carla and I are enjoying the expatriate life with our son Matthew (15) and daughter Kelsey (12).

11434 Paul Ward

Paul and Janice returned to Kingston in July 2004 after three rewarding years in Colorado Springs. Paul is still in uniform and is employed as Directorate of Army Training 3 (Individual and Collective Operational Standards).

(2004-11-6)

11509 Ken Joseph

After a brief stint at a Norad base, I was posted to Ottawa in 1980. One year in NDHQ was enough for me, and I spent the next 10 years at Bell Canada in a series of engineering roles. I then became a sales guy with General Datacom, Bay Networks and Nortel. I left Nortel in 2001 and started two consulting firms: Icegate Solutions - specializing in ICT strategies, management consulting, and international telecom and Icebridge Consulting - as a partner where we specialize in Broadband. Both are active today.

I have spent the last 23+ years in Ottawa and my 3 boys (Kris, Kevin and Kyle) have all grown up here. Kris now lives in Victoria and the other two take turns leaving - when one leaves, the other moves back, so we seem to still have one hanging around.

Our latest news is that Kim and I are now proud grandparents with the arrival of Kyle's daughter, Hayley Elizabeth Joseph on 5 October 2003.

11543 Laurence O'Neill

I retired from the Army in 1997, and am working with General Dynamics Canada as a Program Manager in the C3ISS Business Area, responsible for the Land Force Command System and the NATO Tactical Communications Architecture Post 2000 Programs. I am about to assume responsibility for C3 Business Development with particular focus on ISTAR.

The best move in my life was to marry 15298 Johanna Douglas-O'Neill in 1986, and she still tolerates me, to my considerable relief. We also are blessed with our daughter Meaghan Elizabeth, who was born in 1995. When not travelling round the world on work and play, we live in Calgary and would love to see or hear from our friends.

11610 Michael Austdal

Captain and offensive tackle of the undefeated 1976-77 CMR Remparts (football).

Charter member of the boys with Chuck Pym, Steve Dore, Danny Douglas and “the snake” Ken Coffin.

Surprising many by actually graduating from CMR in 1978, I went on to have an interesting and very fulfilling career with the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. I managed to fill all the regular jobs from platoon commander to commanding officer and a few unique ones like Deputy Commanding Officer and Commanding Officer of 2 Commando, Canadian Liaison Offer to the US Marine Corps (including a few parachute drops from the President’s helicopter), Chief of Plans and Sector Commander for General Dallaire in Rwanda and Deputy Chief Planner for the Balkans at SHAPE HQ in Belgium. Then while at NDHQ flopping about in my low shoes amongst all the smart “young” civilians in NATO Policy I decided that 30 years in one job was enough.

Life after the army has been rewarding and extremely interesting to say the least. I enrolled and completed the year long Cordon Bleu Paris (Ottawa) cooking diploma while finishing up an accreditation as a Sommelier at the same time. I then moved on to opening a great little French restaurant in the Gatineau woods that did well “artistically” but suffered from the too typical “under funding” to remain a viable option. I have since worked in a number of wine stores and managed a horse breeding farm. My current undertaking finds me back in Alberta (my province of choice) as the senior (military) analyst for the Canadian Weapons Effects System in Wainwright, Alberta.

While it appears that I am really bad at marriage, having tried twice, I am very fortunate in having two great children. Jennifer, after completing a Queen’s biology degree went on to become a registered nurse through the compressed program at the University of Toronto and my stepson Jason who is now a Captain in the PPCLI and a veteran of Afghanistan.

I live on 10 acres near Wainwright with my two horses, two dogs and Shadow, the barn cat, practicing my cooking and wine skills on friends and relatives. Life is good.

(2008-6-2)

11622 Doug Campbell

Served my 4 years after grad as a CELE officer stationed in Goose Bay, Labrador, then North Bay, Ontario, then on DEW Line in Cape Perry, NWT, and finally Ottawa.

In Apr-82 I started working for Nortel and by July was in Bagdad as a telecoms field engineer. Took a break from Bagdad to spend New Year’s Eve 1983 in Beirut with friends which lead me to work in Lebanon in ‘83, the year the US Marine barracks were blown up, the Israelis bombed Beirut, and the int’l airport was closed. Saved enough danger pay to take a year off in Switzerland where I completed my MBA from IMD in 1984. In 1985 I did some consulting for Ericsson in Stockholm then worked for Nortel until 1998 – Jakarta ’85–’97, Singapore ’87–’89, Montreal ’89–’94, Hong Kong ’94, Beijing ’94–’97, and Singapore/Tokyo ’97–’98.

Left Nortel in 1998 to pursue a high-tech start-up career. My 1st venture was Triton Network Systems Inc, based in Orlando, FL that went from ~20 employees when I joined to ~250 staff and a NASDAQ IPO in Jul-00. From Florida I moved to San Diego, CA as employee #12 with RF Magic Inc, which went public on NASDAQ. In 2005 I moved to Vancouver, BC as employee #6 with BrightSide Technologies Inc which was purchased last year (2007) by Dolby Laboratories Inc. Currently I am General Manager of Dolby Canada Corp.

Lai Pheng Lam, a Singaporean, and I were married in Canada in 1989. We met at Nortel Singapore where we both worked. Lai Pheng worked at Nortel in the IT the same years I worked at Nortel except for a year off in 1993 to complete her MBA at Concordia Univ. Shortly after I ventured into high-tech start-ups our daughter, Lianne, was born in 1999. Since that time Lai Pheng has been a full-time home maker who has moved to a new city, if not country, every few years. Now, with Lianne in school (in grade 3), our moving has hopefully stopped. We selected Vancouver as our home base – a reasonable geographic and cultural “bridge” between Asia / Lai Pheng’s Chinese family and my Montreal (Eastern Townships) origins.

(2008-6-2)

11627 Benoit Cimon

Currently working as director public works in a municipal environnement.

(2006-8-21)

11634 Bernie DeGagné

Since 1998, I have completed a tour in Bagotville at Wing Ops in 1999, was then promoted to LCol and have completed a tour in Moose Jaw as Wing Chief of Staff. In July 2002 I returned to Kingston on posting for the first time since graduation as the J6 at the CF Joint HQ and settled in the old Pittsburg Township on Hwy 2. This was our first move without any of the children as they are all at school. Of the four boys, two are in the system: Jean Luc due to graduate this spring and David completing Prep year in St Jean. Of the other two boys, André is due to complete his studies at U of Ottawa this spring while Benoit does the same for grade 12 in Moose Jaw. Debra and I look forward to seeing my former classmates in Sep!

11644 Luc Dumouchel

Luc graduated in 1978 with a BEng in Engineering and Management. After completing his CELE training at CFB Kingston, he was posted to CFB Valcartier to the Brigade Signals Squadron. From there, he occupied several positions in Electronic Warfare with the Canadian and British Armies. Luc retired in 1993 after 20 years in the Signals Corps. He currently resides in Ottawa and has been working for Xwave Solutions since his retirement from the military. He is the Director, Information Operations for Xwave.

11658 René Gervais

On promotion to the rank of Colonel In July 2001, René was appointed Commander of the Second Area Support Group (2 ASG) in Land Forces Central Area (LFCA) and posted to Toronto, Ontario, to stand up this new formation. In April 2002, he returned to Ottawa to take over the position of Director Military Engineering Operations/J3 Engineer Operations and the appointment of Branch Advisor, Canadian Military Engineers. He is being considered for the Defence Attaché post in Mexico for the summer of 2003.

11667 Philip Henderson

Still in the military, it seems that I have spent a large and very rewarding portion of my career in professional development. Definitely not the norm for someone in the navy. After completing my first posting on the west coast, I was posted as a Squadron Commander at RRMC in 1982-84.

I subsequently returned to the navy environment to serve as an XO of a PB used for navigation training before going on to complete the Combat Control Officer's (CCO) course (with my brother and Steve Dore). Afterward, I served as a CCO aboard Algonquin from 86-87, up until her Tribal Update.

I was then posted to Washington,DC as the Cdn Rep in a NATO Project office. I remained there until Jul 91. I then returned to Halifax to serve in MARLANT and MARCOM HQs in the fields of communications and command and control information systems until Jul 96.

In Jul 96, I was posted to the Canadian Forces College (CFC) in Toronto to the Command and Staff Course (CSC). Upon completion, in Jul 97, I was posted to RMC as a Division Commander, a position I held for a year before being appointed the Deputy Director of Cadets. I held that appointment for the better part of 2 years.

In Aug 2000, I commenced grad studies at RMC, completing my MA in Defence Management and Policy in May 2002. I was subsequently posted back to the CFC, my PG sponsor, to serve on their staff for 2 years.

In Jul 2004, I was again posted back to RMC to serve as a Div Commander before being posted in Jul 2005 to the new Canadian Defence Academy HQ (http://www.cda-acd.forces.gc.ca/) that occupies the former Ridout Row married quarters on the RMC Campus. I have been employed in Directorate of Training and Education since then with responsibilities for Officer Development Period 3, e.g., the Canadian Forces College Joint Command and Staff Programme (former Command and Staff Course).

I will be retiring from the Reg Forces Spring 2008 and hope to be transitioning to full retirement via part-time employment with the local Naval Reserve Unit, HMCS Cataraqui, or full-time reserve employment for a few years. My wife Marjorie and I plan to remain in Kingston after my retirement. My daughter is attending Queens University in Concurrent Education.

11661 David Graham

Dave left the navy and Fleet Maintenance Group Pacific in 1984 and drove his 1955 MG Magnette from Victoria to Kingston. He completed an MBA at Queen's in 1986 and started working at CAE Electronics in Montreal in the Marine Controls Division. CAE was meant to be part of a five year plan, but Dave got involved in several interesting projects and stayed there. In 1992, he was the Project Engineer building Video Control Units for the International Space Station. In 1998, he implemented an upgrade for the Generation Management System at the Guri Dam in Venezuela (at the time, the largest operating dam in the world.)

Dave moved with the Energy Control System Division when CAE sold it to SNC Lavalin in Y2K. He is currentlya senior Project Engineer for SNC's implementation of a Distribution Management System for the Provincial Electricity Authority in Thailand, spending about four months of every year in Bangkok.

Dave is married to Yuyun who works at Ernst & Young in Montreal. They have a daughter in grade 8. The Magnette - now 47 years old - is still running well.

11669 Joe Hincke

(2005-7-28)

11679 Jean Lapointe

Still in the military, it seem that I have spent most of my career at NDHQ. After wing graduation in 1979, I flew the Twin Huey at 430 Sqn in Valcartier until 1983. In the summer 1983, I was posted to the 3ième Régiment d'Hélicoptères de Combat in Etain, France, where I flew the SA-330, Puma. Upon my return to Canada in 1985, I got posted back to Valcartier, and was employed as the G3 Aviation for the Brigade until 1988. Upon completion of the CH-136 Kiowa Operational Training Course in 1988, I served at 430 Squadron until my back gave up in 1990.

I have since then occupied various NDHQ positions with the following organizations: the Directorate of Land Aviation, the Directorate of Air Requirements Maritime and Rotary, the Chief of Personnel Careers and Development Branch, Staff Officer to the Director General Aerospace Development, Deputy Director of Protocol and Foreign Liaison Office and finally with the Directorate of Arms Proliferation Control Policy.

I am married to France Barriault and we have two sons, François (16) and Louis (14).

Retired from CF (AERE) in '95. After 2 years as NATO project officer, moved to Napanee. Now working as apprentice "grease monkey" at Long Run Imports in Prince Edward County.

11703 John Pavelich

I first left DND in 1993 and worked in the cryptographic program at CSE. In 1996 I left the government for Hi-Tech, working in four different companies and spending 5 years in Vancouver. I re-joined DND as a Major in Jan 06 and am contemplating life at Tunney's Pasture doing computer/network . I am divorced, and have two children, aged 10 and 12 so life at home is very busy. I currently enjoy cycling, cross country skiing, and have the largest Ham radio antenna in my part of Ottawa :-)) Hope to meet some of you in my travels.

11711 Charlie Pym

Salut everyone! Back in Forces since '03 after 15 years doing the airline thing. Enjoying family life (Doreen plus 3 kids) in Winnipeg, staying healthy and looking forward to retirement someday in a warmer place. Can't wait to see my fellow "Vaudreuil Squadron" buds like "Swamper" Austdal, "Smoothy - Pull my finger" Dore, "Snake" Coffin and "Dannyman" Douglas, as well as my many other CMR comrades. Verite, Devoir, Vaillance.

(2008-7-3)

11713 Bruce Rogers

When we marched off the square in '78 I went straight to Imperial Oil in Toronto where I worked as a process design engineer for two years, mostly on energy conservation projects for IOL's Montral Refinery. In June 1980 I left, headed for business school at the European Institute for Business Administration in Fontainebleau. On the way I met my wife, Julie Munford. Julie and I married in Dallas in December 1981 with Joe Hincke as best man.

In 1981, with my MBA in hand, I went to work for Raychem in Calgary in a sales job. In 1984 Raychem moved us to California, in 1985 to Dallas, and in 1988 to Belgium. While in Belgium I decided it was time for a change so when we returned to the US I resigned to go to law school.

Graduated from SMU law in 1994 and have been a litigator ever since. I do a lot of industrial/commercial subrogation and coverage work. I am a partner in a Fort Worth litigation boutique.

In 1994 Julie started Doberman Rescue of North Texas. It has grown to be one of the larger Doberman Rescues in the US. I am chief poop scooper and webmaster. Anyone need a dog?

Last but not least, we have one son, Ben. You may remember him from the 1988 reunion. Ben graduated from high school in 2001 and enlisted in the Marines. He was in boot camp on 9/11. He served five years on active duty, spending most of his time in the heavy equipment copmpany of the 9th Engineering Support Battalion stationed in Okinawa, ending up as a Sergeant. He's now completing his obligation in the Individual Ready Reserve, living at home and going to school.

We live 15 minutes south of DFW airport, so let me know if you are passing through and feel like hoisting a beer.

11720 John Stacey

Received my wings in Fall '79 and spent the next 18 years flying the Voodoo, T33, Tutor, CF18, and CF5, with a few years underground in the NORAD complex in North Bay just to keep me honest. Retired in Feb '98 to fly with Air Canada.

11722 Kenneth Stewart

In Mar 06 I left my position at NDHQ as Director Asia Pacific Policy and was appointed Commander Task Force Tampa, Op FOUNDATION. Yes you read that right, Tampa, Florida. The Queen in her infinite wisdom has decided that I should spend the next 2 years or so in the Sunshine State. I have escaped winter for a while and invite any in the area to look me up. I have a big house with a pool and its just me and the wife as we are now empty nesters.

(2006-8-6)

11731 Dennis Weiss

After leaving AETE, Cold Lake in 1986 with our one year old son, Jason, we moved to Ottawa. I took the job as System Engineering Manager for the EST Challenger project until 1989, when I took the plunge, "retired" and joined EWA-Canada as one of five employees. Settled nicely in the Orleans area, we are enjoying life with our two wonderful sons, Jason and Adam, our German Shepherd Sheba, our family and friends. My wife Judy works as the Director of Finance for the Shenkman Corporation and I am the Vice President of EWA-Canada. Our sons are in school – Jason (age 20) at Carleton University, Ottawa, in the Biotechnology program and Adam (age 17) in Grade 12 and both active in everything sports and social related. Recent accomplishment – Judy and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in May 2005. We are always happy to see and hear from our friends from the College and Collège days.

(2005-9-16)

11742 Alan Beveridge

I served in a variety of postings in Canada, Europe and the middle east in the Army Signal Corps. I retired as a Major in 1997 in Toronto. I first workeded at Alcatel Canada in IT management and then moved to the Royal Bank in the support of Action Direct, their web brokerage firm. After the market downturn, my group was downsized and I was a "gentleman farmer" for a year, looking after our hobby farm and horses, and teaching skiing fulltime during the week in the winter months.

I joined Davis + Henderson Ltd. in May of 04, working first in IT operations controling IT system change management. I am now the program director for the company's drive to improve our system of internal controls so that we are fully compliant with Ontario Bill 198 (the Canadian version of the US Sarbanes-Oxley Act). If you want to have a conversation about the COSO and CoBIT control frameworks, I'm your man, although I don't know why you would want to in the first place. I recently completed a three year Bachelor of Education degree in Adult Education from Brock University in my spare time. I am now planning to move on to the Master of Arts in Leadership and Training program at Royal Roads University, so I will become a Roadent in reverse order!

My wife Margaret and I have been together for seven years. Together we have three children, a son 24, a daughter 22 and a son 13.

(2005-11-4)

11757 Kenneth Cooper

It probably won't surprise too many of you that it has only been recently that I have decided what I want to be when I grow up. I am now a shrink. After RMC graduation I made a valiant effort to become a Naval Officer, but I just was not very good at it. I ended up serving my obligatory service in Halifax in MARCOMHQ and doing an MBA part-time at Dal. I left the CF in 1982 at the end of my oblig time, and finished the MBA. Originally, it was my intention to go into law, but instead became interested in Medicine and entered medical school at Dalhousie University in 1984, graduating with an MD in 1988. I re-entered the CF in 1986. After a rotating internship (also through Dalhousie), I came to service as a Medical Officer in the Canadian Navy in the summer of 1989 in Halifax. In 1990 I was serving as the Medical Officer of HMCS Protecteur when the Gulf War broke out, and I spent the last half of 1990 and early 1991 in the Persian Gulf.

On return, I was accepted into post-grad training, and completed a Master of Health Science at U of T 92-94, as well as a clinical fellowship in addiction medicine. I then ran the CF Addiction Rehab Program 94-98, and spent 96-98 as Director of the ARC in Halifax. I left the CF in late 98, and did a residency in Psychiatry at Dalhousie. Since summer 2002 I have worked at the OTSSC at CFB Halifax, where we treat mostly PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). It is the best of all worlds for me, as I can use all of my various experiences and training to help those with psychological injuries from service. I am also the medical consultant for the NS Prescription Monitoring Program, and an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Dalhousie University. But, the best thing to happen to me was to marry Lynn Kelley in 1988, the day after graduation from Medical School. Lynn likes to tell people she wanted to make sure I had my degree first! Our daughter was born in late 1989, and we all live quite happily in Halifax.

11761 Nelson Cross

Sales Engineer for Toronto/Scarborough for Festo Inc.(Pneumatic Automation). Re-married to Katherine 18 July 2002. As well as my teens Jon and Molly, I now have 3 step-children and 3 step-grandchildren!

11766 James Doherty

Serving in Ottawa as Director of Aerospace Equipment Program Management (Fighters and Trainers). I am married to Mireille Dufour, and we have a son, William James, born on 3 January 2003. I also have three daughters: Charissa at McGill, Melina at Western, and Tanika who lives in Calgary with her mother, Susan deKoninck.

11774 Rick Ferster

I'm still in the military flying as a Mission Crew Commander on the USAF E-3 AWACS at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma.

11777 Rick Furney

Retired Sep 2002 after 7,000(+) C130 hours and 28.5 years of service (flying 2 X 436 Trenton, 47 UK and 435 Winnipeg) and tours CFCSC, CFSAS X 2, 1 CAD HQ. Highlight of flying career was tour in UK (47 Squadron) in mid-80s. Got my BEd in Manitoba in 2004 and teaching Math and Physics in High School. Loving it. Ginette (sister of Ted's wife) and I have two daughters, 23 (post Grad at MUN) and 21 (U of M Civ Eng). (2003)

Update Jul 2008: Still teaching Mathematics and Physics, but now inner-city Winnipeg, Adult Education! Very very rewarding; sure beats 32 screaming teenagers in a classroom! (Even our Seargent-Major would have had a tough time! Mind you..., likely we all were teenagers when we started RMC. I was 17!) Ginette and I (after 29+ years) have two grand-children. Occasionally we talk about leaving Winnipeg, but we do not know any place better (at least for 7/12ths of the year) Sorry we will miss the 30th Reunion. Best regards to all my classmates. Look for me on FB.

11781 Gregory Green

Thanks for the opportunity to reconnect after all these years. After promising Maydon that I would just complete my obligatory time and get out, I am still serving as a Naval Officer. I've had a terrific and varied career ranging from being trained, then training in Victoria, naval staff jobs in Ottawa as Test and Trials Manager from the TRUMP project, then Major Ship Platforms at the Directorate of Naval Requirements. I was the Combat Training Division Commander, then Deputy Commandant at our Naval Operations School and I spent 12 years at sea in various capacities, including two tours in the Persian Gulf after 9/11. I am currently completing a four year tour with NATO in Naples, Italy where we have taken every opportunity to explore Europe and beyond (a little military tourism also took me to Moscow as well). We will soon be moving back to our home in Bedford NS where I will serve out my last position in the Navy at sea again as Chief Staff Officer for Operations in the Altlantic Fleet.

Even though I promised her that I would get out after 4 years, the beautiful brown eyed girl that I married, who used to breach RMC security to "graunch" our rooms, has stuck with me and we have two great kids, Andrew (20) at U of T and Sarah (15) an accomplished equestrian. I enjoyed reading the other bios and look forward to the 30th reunion...thanks to Don and Tony for keeping the candle burning.

Sue and I (married in 2002) enjoy the south, and our combined family of four children reside in the Toronto/Ottawa area.

11784 Wayne Haggart

Took off the uniform in 2008 but converted to DND Public Service...double dip! Retired as LCol (Log trucker-mover-Ammo Technical Officer). Working in the Directorate of Ammuniton and Explosives Regulation, which I helped create and was A/Director and Section Head until CF retirement.

Live in beautiful downtown Barrhaven (Nepean), where Valerie is glad to be back in her hometown after all our travels. Only Dylan (17) is still at home - Erin lives and works in Ottawa at a variety of jobs, Melissa is a MARS Lt(N) on the West Coast, and Patrick is a legal assistant at Gowlings law firm here in Ottawa.

Great career in uniform, highlighted by a year in England on ATO training, a year in Norwegian Staff College, a 3 year tour in Norway afterwards, CO of Canadian Forces Ammunition Depot Angus.

11808 Ted Little

I retired from the Navy in 1982 after being seasick in every major ocean of the world. I have been employed in Ontario Hydro Nuclear (now Bruce Power) from then to now (not one seasick episode). Rita and I have been married since the beginning of time (very happily though) and we have two daughters. The youngest is leaving for university this year (joining her sister) and the house will be very quiet. We live close to Lake Huron in a pretty spot. Drop in if you are in this quiet backwater of Ontario.

11809 Rick Low

I left the military in 1982. Since then, I completed a master's degree in Electrical Engineering and have been working in Ottawa developing embedded computer systems for various communication and signal processing applications. I now work for Allen-Vanguard (formerly Med-Eng Systems). There's more info in my LinkedIn profile.

I was widowed in 1998 after 19 years of marriage. I am engaged to Wendy Jones, widow of 11795 Jeff Jones. We each have two children. Three of the four kids are at Queen's University (M.Sc. Biochemistry, B.A. History, B.A. English) and one is at Ontario Veterinary College (D.V.M.). We're finally starting to blend the two families and squeeze over 50 combined years of accumulated junk into one house.

11811 Rob MacLeod

Greetings & salutations from the Land of the Morning Calm! Martha-Jean & I have successfully raised our three kids and we are now teaching English and (gasp!) Christian theology in Seoul, South Korea. We've been over here since 2004 and absolutely love it. I put away my army suit in 1994 after my stint as CO of the First Hussars in London, Ontario was completed. I ran an insurance brokerage for many years and decided to make a complete career change after burying one of my younger business colleagues who dropped dead of stress an hour after I had been drinking beer with him at the Wolseley Barracks Officers' Mess (after a standard week of fun in the financial services industry). Both MJ & I work at a small theological university where we are the only foreign professors. We love traveling and we have just returned from a month in Malaysia. We'd be delighted to see any of you ring-knockers who make your way to this side of the Pacific. God bless all of you! Rob

Now, 20 years later, the kids are grown up and on their way, the original car is long gone, but I still got those plates on firmly.

I currently work in Toronto, live in Halifax, and goof around in Cape Breton.

11848 Frank Vagi

I left the military after the obligatory 4 years in 1982, but before leaving I married Paula and brought her to the great white north with me as I went to university to do a masters in advanced process control at the U. of A. in Edmonton. I started working for Syncrude out of Edmonton in 1984, designing a new control system for their expansion. I left Syncrude and joined Shell in 1986, worked a varied of jobs, from advanced process control, process engineering, operations, etc., and had a brief one-year stay in Vancouver. I also worked on the design and all the regulatory permissions for Shell's big expansion of their refinery with an Upgrader. After 15 years with Shell, many in Edmonton, Canada's gas station came calling. I joined Petro-Canada in the last part of 2000 to work on their refinery expansion and reconfiguration. I continue to work for Petro-Canada, but now having completed several projects with them, I have now embarked on a brand new project, A new Upgrader to be built North East of Edmonton, this will be a long haul, the plant is not expected to start up until 2011! just in time for my retirement.

I still have the corvette I bought in fourth year, as a matter of fact, I just finished rebuilding the engine this last winter, and increasing the horsepower a tad to around 350 HP. I added lots of chrome, and shiny stuff!

I have two adult children, Kevin and Lisa. We still live in St. Albert.

Photos of the Corvette: driver's side outside, shiny engine, under the hood, top view.

11870 Dave Christensen

Hi everyone, I am married to Eve and working as an Engineering Academic Instructor in Victoria. I have two kids in university. Love to ski in the winter and wakeboard in the summer. Still am hopelessly addicted to fixing "things." See you all in Sept 03 for the 25 year reunion.

11877 Derek Davis

After graduation I spent considerable time achieving my Naval Architectural qualification and then working on most of the major warship projects such as the patrol frigate, Tribal class modernization and submarine replacement (in the latter case working on both the British and Canadian sides depending upon time frame.) Along the way, I met my wife Pat in the UK, went back, got married, and somehow spent considerable time bouncing back and forth across the Atlantic. Our son Ben, who has bounced with us, is presently temporarily working in the UK, before coming back to Victoria to continue his university studies. The bouncing has hopefully ended, for a while at least, as I've also done alot of personnel work which somehow led to my current posting in personnel and training. I am not sure if I will be able to make the reunion, but wish everyone who does all the best.

Couldn't quite get semi-retirement figured out so I have moved on from Petawawa and re-joined the regs again in Ottawa and I am now grandpa times 3 if you can believe that...(good fun great kids and both son-in-laws are in the military...go figure). Enjoying the opportunity to influence the new Chinook Helicopter buy for the CF. 11938 Don Olechowski

I've been in the San Francisco Bay area since 2002, working with an interesting variety of start-up companies. This is a great part of the world to live in! My oldest daughter will graduate from McGill in 2008, the next one from Queen's Engineering (!!) in 2010, then two more younger ones. I have a goal to get the entire class signed up on Facebook - it's not just for kids anymore – so that we can more easily organize ourselves for reunions, casual contact and networking. Please sign up on Facebook as my "friend" and get all the other guys you keep in contact with to do the same thing. You'll be amazed at its utility.

11954 Wayne Ridgeway

Wayne left the navy in 1983, and completed an MBA at Queens in 1985. Since then he has been with Mcleod Young Weir (now Scotiacapital) as an investment advisor. He and his wife of 19 yrs, Sharlene, have just sent their son, Mark, to Western, and their daughter, Kristen, is entering grade 11. Wayne now prefers searching for his golf ball to crushing bricks and boards and trying to speak Japanese.

11958 James Selbie

Since the 1998 Reunion, I have handed over command of 1 Area Support Group/Edmonton Garrison, spent a wonderful year at the US Army War College in Carlisle PA, deployed post 9/11 to HQ US CENTCOM in Tampa FL and now find myself in Istanbul where I serve as ACOS G7 at HQ 3rd (TU) Corps (NATO Rapid Deployment Corps - Turkey). The Army offers nothing if not variety! Anne, Elizabeth, James, Olivia & I would be delighted to introduce any old comrades visiting Constantinople to the mysteries of the Orient.

Sadly, due to my duties here, I am unlikely to be able to attend the 25th Anniversary of Graduation Reunion - the first I will have missed. Nonetheless, I extend best wishes to all and trust that our Class will be well represented on parade on Sunday.

11962 Alf Smith

I served 5 years in submarines (all three, last being Ops Officer Ojibwa). The Navy was kind enough to send me to UCL England where I earned an MSc in Naval Architecture. After postings as MCDV and CPF Naval Architect, I was exported to the burning center of the universe for Nav Archs: David Taylor Model Basin in Maryland (just outside WDC) 1992-93. But rather than Nav Arch duties, I was assigned to the cost estimating team. And thus my third (and current) career was born...who knew I would like it? In 1993, I took a course from Tecolote Research, Santa Barbara. They offered me a job. Being too early to consider leaving the CF, I invited them to "call me in a year or so". They did.

I left the CF in 1995 after 21 years service and spent 5 years building DoD cost models in Tecolote's WDC office. In 2000 the company moved us to Santa Barbara where I took on my current (2006) position as General Manager Software Products/Services. We support NASA, DoD, US Customs, Coast Guard, Dept of Ed with some foreign work in NZ, Australia, England and France.

I was married in 2006 to Lou Ann. She has a boy, 9 and my two girls Chelsea (23), Kim (20) are living life large in San Fran completing studies in Art History and Psychology respectively.

I missed the 25th and am hoping there is a repeat performance for the 30th. Several military friends have found their way to Santa Barbara for a visit. Consider being the next!

11994 Steve Dore

After grad, I continued my career as a MARS officer posted predominantly to East coast Navy units/billets. In 1999 I underwent PG training (in part to relearn material I should have learned as an undergrad had I been paying attention:) In 2001 I completed an MBA at Dalhousie University and was employed in the Ops Research division at NDHQ and was a part time prof teaching Stats and Data Anaylsis to the Ottawa U MBA program before retiring from the CF in 2004.

I am now working at IBM Business Consulting Services (99 Bank St 8th Floor) in Ottawa as the Business Develpoment Manager for the Defence account.

I live in Orleans with my wife 'Julie', daughter 'Liz', son 'Andy', and black lab 'Koby'. Best regards to all!

(2006-4-1)

12007 Bill Samulack

Since leaving the military in 1982, I have worked with several defence contractors in systems and software engineering. In 1998, Cindy and I decided to try making it on our own and formed our own company. I am currently on a long term project management services contract with PMO Aurora where we are managing the CP140's incremental modernization.

Our children, Rob and Kim, are in grades 10 and 8 respectively and are both active in scouting and sport activities.
